The REACH ProgramREACH stands for Reaching out to Educate and Assist Caring, Healthy families and is based on the Multi-Functional Group Model (Sherman, M.D, Sorocco, K., Fischer, E. & McFarlane, W.R., 2009). The REACH program is broken up into three different phases. The first phase is made up of four, fifty minute sessions four times a week with both the family and the veteran.The next phase is six weekly classes that are seventy-five minutes long. They include discussions and they are proctored by two psychologists These discussions include four to six families in each class. The third phase only meets once a month for ninety minutes. The SAFE ProgramSAFE stands for Support And Family Education program. This program is designed as a 14 session course in which a psychologist leads the training. The program targets mental illness as a whole to better educate the family, but there is a specific session that focuses on PTSD (Sheman, 2003). The format of the clinic is broken down into three sections: a group discussion, a presentation on the topic of the day and a question and answer session with a psychologist (Sheman, 2003).
